Conservation of Energy Day 7

Elastic Collisions
What: SWBAT solve problems to calculate the momentum of objects after an elastic collision.
How: By solving for final momentum on an exit slip with released CST word problems.
Why: To be critical thinkers we need to connect our prior knowledge of momentum to real life and the ways that we see momentum transferred between objects.

Agenda:
1. Do Now- 10 min
2. Matrix Collisions - 10 min
3. Elastic Collision Notes - 10 min
4. White Board Practice - 10 min
5. HW/Practice Questions - 10 min

What different types of collisions do you see in this video?

Conservation of Energy Day 6

Inelastic Collisions
What: Students will be able to use an equation to solve problems of conservation of momentum with inelastic collisions.
How: Students will complete a multiple choice exit slip to solve word problems
Why: To be critical thinkers we will use our prior knowledge of calculating the momentum of an object to determine how momentum is transferred in collisions.

1. Do Now- Momentum practice questions - 10 min
2. Collision examples videos - 10 min
3. Collision drawings - Elastic and Inelastic - 15 min
4. Collision notes - 10 min
5. Collision white board practice - 15 min
6. Collision HW/practice- 15 min
7. Collision Exit Slip- 10 min

Conservation of Energy Day 5

Conservation of Momentum

Momentum is transferred from the running elephant to the car.
Objective:
What: SWBAT Use an equation to find the momentum of a moving object and synthesize 2 situations where momentum is transferred.
How: Students will correctly apply the equation to word problems with 80% accuracy on an exit slip and create a comic strip that shows the transfer of momentum with 80% accuracy.
Why: To be critical thinkers by connecting our prior lessons about the conservation of energy to the conservation of momentum in moving objects and collisions.

Agenda:
1. Do Now - 10 min
2. Momentum videos - 5 min
3. Bill Nye Momentum - 30 min
4. Momentum clips - 10 min
5. Momentum comic strip - 15 min
6. Momentum notes - 10 min
7. White Board Practice - 10 min
8. HW / Exit Slip - 10 min

In boxing, the more mass behind a punch the more momentum.

The momentum of the bowling ball continues in the same direction as the car, and ends up hitting the back windshield off.  Momentum from the bowling ball flying through the air is transferred to the car's windshield, which flies off!

The momentum of the water in the water balloon is conserved because the momentum is transferred to his head and to the water moving out in all directions.

Quiz: Kinetic Energy and Conservation of Energy

What to know for the quiz:

- Calculating Kinetic Energy
- Conservation of Energy
(figure out kinetic energy or potential when you know one and total energy)
All these were covered on Day 3 and 4 of Conservation of Energy

Good Luck!

Potential Energy Quiz!

SWBAT answer quiz questions with 80% accuracy on Schoology.

Agenda:
1. Take 15 minutes to watch videos, look over HW study for the quiz, and sign in to Schoology.
2. Put away all papers aside from scratch paper. CLOSE THE BLOG PAGE. You may NOT look at the blog during the quiz. Your time to study is during the beginning of class
3. Silently take the quiz
4. Complete the early finisher word search.
