Electromagnetism Day 3

Parts of a Circuit

Objective:
What: SWBAT describe properties of electricity and electric circuits
How: Students will create a comic strip to describe the 3 main parts of an electric current that relate to Ohm's Law
Why: To be critical thinkers, we need to connect our knowledge of Ohm's law to the ways that those different parts work together in a circuit

I. Bill Nye- Electricity

-----Make sure to answer the summary question when you finish the Bill Nye's!-----

II. Bitesize Activity

III. Bitesize- Review

IV. Bitesize- Test

V.

VI. Brain Genie
(remember that your username and password are the first letter of your first name, and your whole last name)
Complete the Ohm's Law assignment.  If you master each of those skills, you will be in good shape for the quiz!

Early finishers
You should only watch these videos and activities if you've completed EVERYTHING ELSE for today's assignment.  These two videos show some of the properties of steel wool that we discussed in class.

A really cool example of steel wool burning.  Since the wool is spinning, there is a tons of oxygen for it to react with.  The fire continues to burn because the wool is so hot, and there is plenty of oxygen to make every part of the steel wool burn until there is nothing left.

Electromagnetism Day 2

Circuits

Objective:
What: SWBAT use Ohm's Law to predict the amount of current in a circuit.
How: Students will complete an exit slip of released CST questions to calculate current with Ohm's Law with 80% accuracy
Why: To be life long learners, we need to connect what we know about electricity and the flow of electrons to the ways they are used in the real world.

Electromagnetism Day 1

Intro to Electricity

Objective:
What: SWBAT describe basic properties of electricity.
How: On an exit slip students will describe in words and pictures with a word bank how electricity flows and give an example of a situation where static electricity is building up with 80% accuracy.
Why: To be critical thinkers about the world around us we need to understand how electricity works within all the things that we use in everyday life.

Agenda:

Do Now (on worksheet)

Thermodynamics Day 9

Entropy Day 2 / QUIZ!
Objective
What: SWBAT describe examples of Entropy, and pass the physics quiz!
How: By answering questions and drawing examples of entropy on an exit slip with 80% accuracy, and answer the quiz questions correctly with 80% accuracy.
Why: To be critical thinkers we must be able to apply what we learn about entropy to real life situations.

Agenda:
1. Do Now
2. Entropy Slideshow, Videos and discussion
3. Entropy Exit slip
4. Quiz!

How does the formation of everything in the universe show that entropy is increasing?

Does entropy always increase when work is done or time passes?

Thermodynamics Day 8

ENTROPY!
(basically, everything will eventually fall apart and order becomes randomness)

Objective
What: Students will review the first Law of Thermodynamics, and learn applications of the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
How: Students will fill out an exit slip with released CST questions about entropy.
Why: To be critical thinkers we must understand that entropy is one of the natural states of matter.

Work and The First Law of Thermodynamics

What: SWBAT Solve problems to calculate work and solve problems with the First Law of Thermodynamics
How: Students will calculate work on their worksheet and use the First Law of Thermodynamics on an exit slip with released CST questions with 80% accuracy
Why: to be lifelong learners, we need to use our knowledge of heat to calculate how useful it can be in the real world

Thermodynamics Day 6

Thermal Equilibrium

What: SWBAT describe what happens in Thermal Equilibrium.
How: Students will go through the webquest, watch the videos, and succeed on the quiz at the end of the period!
Why: To be academic achievers we need to turn our learning into results and get an A on the quiz!

When you finish with the above pages, you should use the next 30 minutes to use the blog to study for the quiz.
REVIEW

Conduction, convection and radiation review:

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND watching these videos to review.  It's a playlist with 7 videos.  You should choose the topics that you feel the most unsure about.
