Waves Day 2

Electromagnetic vs. Mechanical Waves
both transfer energy in their own way

Objective:
What: SWBAT describe differences between Electromagnetic and Mechanical waves.
How: Students will complete an exit slip where they list examples of mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves and characteristics of each.
Why: To be critical thinkers we need to understand these two types of waves and the ways that they transfer energy.

Waves Day 1

Intro to Waves
Waves are totally pushy...

Objective
What: SWBAT describe and analyze examples of how waves transfer energy.
How: SWBAT correctly answer CST questions about energy transfer through waves and synthesize a situation in which waves are used to transfer energy with 80% accuracy.
Why: To be critical thinkers, we need to understand how are created and how waves affect us in our everyday life.

Magnets


Objective
What: SWBAT determine the direction of a magnetic field
How: On an exit slip of released CST questions, students will use the right hand rule to determine the direction of a magnetic field.
Why: To be critical thinkers, we need to understand how magnets work, and the role that they played in history and the modern world.

Calculating Current

What: SWBAT use the equation for current: I = q/t
How: SWBAT solve released benchmark questions by calculating current with 80% accuracy on an exit slip.
Why: To be critical thinkers, we need to use our knowledge of Ohm's Law and electricity to understand the role that a charge plays in the amount of current in a circuit.
