Bridge Project Day 2

Background Research

Objective:

What: SWBAT design and create a bridge that will hold up the greatest amount of weight-for-mass.
How: Students will use up to 500 toothpicks and Elmer’s glue to construct a bridge that spans an 18-inch gap.
Why: To be life long learners, we need to apply the physical concepts learned in class to real life situations.  Also, 3 winning teams from all the classes will get extra credit.

Agenda
1. Do Now
2. Building Big: Bridges
3. Blueprint

Bridge Project- Day 1

Physics Bridge Project:
Background Research

Objective:
What: SWBAT identify and analyze pro's and cons of different types of building methods for their bridge project.
How: Students will use what they learn from class today to create a rough draft bridge design with their group.
Why: To be life long learners we need to use the physical concepts we learn in class and apply them to real life situations.

Agenda
1. Do Now
2. Brainpop
3. Bill Nye
4. Bridge basics reading
5. Rough draft sketchs and brainstorming!

CST Review Day 10

Magnetism

Objective:
What: SWBAT apply the properties that make objects magnetic or not.
How: Students will correctly complete a comic strip on magnetism that demonstrates 2 different ways to turn something into a magnet and one situation where an object cannot turn into a magnet.
Why: To be academic achievers, we need to decimate the CST and the Physics final!

Agenda
1. Do Now
2. Brainpop - Magnetism, Electromagnets, and Electromagnetic Induction
3. Bill Nye - Magnetism
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
4. Magnetism Cornell Notes

5. Magnetism comic strip
Your comic strip must explain the following four things:
      a. What makes things magnetic.
      b. How to create a magnet with another magnet, and why it turns into a magnet.
      c. How to use electricity to make something a magnet, and why this makes it turn into a magnet.
      d. An object that cannot become magnetic.

Post your completed comic strip as a comment on today's blog post.
(There's a video explaining how to do this if you forgot how at the bottom of today's blog post!)

Minibook!

Here is a link to the Minibook assignment, in case you lost any of the pages!

Handle your business!

CST Review Day 9

Waves

Objective
What: SWBAT use vocabulary and the equation for wavelength to solve word problems.
How: Through excellent notes, students will use what they already know and what they learn in class to complete the last pages in their minibook!
Why: To be academic achievers, we must murdalize the CST and the physics final!

(definition of murdalize via Urbandictionary.com)

Murdalize:
To kill in a highly entertaining fashion

"Mouse was so mad he murdalized Ruwe by ripping out his lungs."
Agenda
1. Brainpop- Waves
2. Calculating wave velocity
3. Bill Nye Waves

CST Review Day 8

Electromagnetism

Objective:
What: SWBAT use principals of Electromagnetism to solve problems in their minibook.
How: Students will use Ohm's Law, and the equation for electrical power to solve problems on pages 34-41 in their minibook.
Why: To be academic achievers we need to annihilate the CST and physics final!

Agenda
1. Do Now
2. Brainpop Electricity
3. Ohm's Law
4. Power
5. Bill Nye - Electricity
6. HW: Electricity Reading

CST Review Day 7

Thermodynamics

Objective:
What: SWBAT use the Zereoth, First and Second laws of Thermodynamics to solve Physics problems.
How: Students will solve problems involving Heat Engines, and the Laws of Thermodynamics in their minibook
Why: To be academic achievers we need to demolish the CST and Physics Final!

Agenda
1. Do Now - Heat in a gas
2. Eureka - Temperature vs. Heat
3. Brainpop - Temperature
4. Thermodynamics Notes
5. Heat Engine problems practice
6. Bill Nye- Fluids
7. Questioning Entropy...?
